My Story

At Galliford Try Partnerships we are completeing a 850 mile Cycling Challenge, this is the distance between our UK offices, for World Child Cancer. I am one of the 25 members of the team who have volunteered to complete a share of the overall 800+ mile stretch. 100 miles will take place on static bikes at our office, and the final 60 miles across Dartmore on Friday 28th September 2018.

The ride will include 940 metres ascent and 900 metres descent and will be a tough challenge, it will certainly be worth every penny of sponsorship, so please give generously.

The need: Childhood cancer in the developing world

Over 300,000 children worldwide develop cancer each year. If the illness is detected early enough, many of these children can be cured - as many as 80% of children with cancer in the developed world survive. However, in developing countries, survival rates can be as low as 10%. In addition, many children are dying without effective pain relief.

World Child Cancer seeks to support children around the world who do not have access to treatment and support. It has programmes in Ghana, Cameroon, Malawi, Bangladesh, Myanmar & the Philippines, and with the help of partners like ourselves, aims to improve diagnosis, treatment and support for children with cancer and their families in the developing world. Their work has been life changing for many individuals.

The following highlights just the small ways your fundraising will be used:

• £25 funds accurate diagnosis for 10 children in Bangladesh

• £50 pays for life-saving chemotherapy for a child in Ghana

• £100 could support accurate diagnosis for 5 children with cancer in Cameroon

• £200 covers the salary of a nurse on a children's cancer ward in Cameroon for a month

• £300 covers the cost of a play-worker on a children's cancer ward in Myanmar for a year
