Adam and Claire cycling 100 miles in support of World Child Cancer
Adam & Joe
My Story
Adam and Claire have decided to take on the challenge of a 100 mile cycle following the London Olympic road race route from 2012, racing 20,000 other cyclists across London and Surrey on Sunday 29th July. Adam has done the cycle before, but it's Claire's first Ride100, and it's safe to say it's going to be a challenge for the both of us. We would love to ask for your support in helping us fundraise for our chosen charity who gave us the places in the challenge event. It will also make us pedal a bit faster and help us feel that we are making a difference!
We've decided to support World Child Cancer, and are raising money to help the charity improve diagnosis and treatment for children with cancer in the developing world. The charity beleive that no child, no matter where they are born, should be left to die of a painful illness when they could be cured with relatively simple and affordable treatments. The shocking fact is that children who develop cancer here in the UK have an 84% chance of survival, thanks to huge advancements in medicine in the last 50 years. However, less than 10% of children who develop cancer in the developing world are likely to survive, most without even getting an accurate diagnosis.
Having recently visited the project in Ghana myself (Adam), I saw first-hand the amazing work that the paediatric doctors and nurses are doing to make a difference to these children's lives. But sadly childhood cancer is often not covered by local healthcare providers, or insurance schemes in the countries in which World Child Cancer works, and therefore many families cannot aford the treatment. Due to families spending long periods of time away from home and travelling great distances to hospital they are continually being pushed further into poverty.
Anything you could give would be appreciated! Just a couple of pounds. Or even better, you could help us fundraise by holding a bake sale, or a dress down day in your office and asking everybody to donate to take part.
Thanks for your support,
Adam and Claire
